Graduate student fellowship

A Ph. D. research fellowship (up to 5 years) in enzyme chemistry is available with Dr. Flora Meilleur. The position is joint between North Carolina State University, the Ph. D. granting institution where the Ph. D. candidate will complete the program core coursework, and Oak Ridge National Laboratory, where research activities will be performed.

The project will focus on lytic polysaccharide monooxygenase, a class of copper containing metalloenzymes involved in biomass oxidation. High resolution X-ray and neutron crystallography will be used primarily to elucidate the enzymatic mechanism. The project will involve collaborations to include spectroscopic and biophysical methods as well as computational approaches.

The candidate should hold a degree in chemistry or biochemistry. Prior experience in molecular biology, protein expression, or protein purification is an advantage.

The position is available now and applications are welcome until the position is filled. Interested candidates must email a detailed CV, a letter of motivation and the name of three scientists for reference to Flora Meilleur fmeille@ncsu.edu prior to applying to the Graduate Program in Biochemistry at NC State.

Post-doctoral fellowship

We are seeking a postdoctoral fellow to characterize the structure and dynamics of enzymes immobilized on biopolymer matrices using X-ray and neutron scattering techniques.

The project is part of the Biocatalysts Interactions with Gases (BIG) international collaboration (https://sites.textiles.ncsu.edu/big/), with  partners at North Carolina State University (NC State), Technical University of Denmark (DTU), and  Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). The candidate will join the Neutron Scattering Division at ORNL and will work closely with collaborator and ORNL’s Weinberg Distinguished Staff Fellow Dr. Yue Yuan at the Center for Nanophase Material Science. https://jobs.ncsu.edu/postings/174730
